32 She-demons and He-demons

She didn't think she had been out long, Lily woke up to the gentle back and forth motion of being carried down the hallway. Asmodan had her cradled like a baby in his arms, she wasn't sure how she could tell but they were just his arms he hadn’t used anything to increase them he hadn't taken the time to do it. She felt strong enough and told him that she could walk. He asked if she was sure and then placed her down but as he did he turned her to face down the hall towards her room an asked her to please not turn around. She wanted to know why but didn't press the mater she stood looking down the hallway as she had been placed.
“Your timing was bad.”
“We were about to make a deal when you did whatever it was that you did.”
“You were going to make a deal? My timing was great then. I warned you about making any sort of bargain with any of them.”
“The deal was that she was to help make the building safe for your work and only act to my benefit for the rest of my life.”
“That’s a giant loophole right there.”
“Really? Even if she can’t act against me?”
“You didn't say that she can’t act against you, you said she did have to act in your benefit, when she isn’t in your benefit she could be in hers which is ending your life sooner than later. They will hold to the deal once it’s made but they will spend every spare second looking for a loophole or an easy out.”
Lily didn't reply she only stood staring down the hallway away from him. Danny moved up beside her staring down the hall with her.
“What is back there.”
“A large part of her essence but not in the powder form that you have seen in the ball before.  Lily I’m sorry I know you made me promise to stay out of your head but when you were laying there on the floor I couldn’t just stand and watch.”
She turned and hugged him then. Burying her face in his chest, she didn’t cry or sob she just pressed her face into him as she squeezed him. Her words were muffled coming through his chest and shirt as they were. She reassured him that she wasn’t mad at him. He froze up his body went rigid almost corpse like at the touch only relaxing slightly as he came to grips with the situation and the reason she was hugging him. He had become so removed from human contact and had removed himself so much further after Niath’s great deception.
“It’s ok. I understand. I’m not mad.”
“Would you want her? If the Bargain was in your favor would you want her?”
Lily was silent for a while after he asked. She relaxed her arms around him and moved herself back a step. She looked up at him and thought through her answer.
“I am not a Warlock. I think to have a chance of surviving in the situations that I am going to find myself in being around you I will need her wont I?”
“Do you want out of this? I can have Algie set you up somewhere for what I have already put you trough and done to you. You won’t be rich but you won’t ever have to work again. I will take care of you Lily you deserve that much at least. I loose myself sometimes. I get wrapped up in what I am focused on and you aren't a person anymore when I do it. You are a bottle holding the demon essence that I need to get a building that I have ruined to work for me. I lose sight of the fact that you are woman who lost her job for opening a door on a fool who fell down some stairs. What you have gone through between then and now is not fair for anyone. If you want out I will make sure everything is taken care of for you.”
“It wouldn’t work.”
“Where would I go that I would fit in now? What would I tell someone a new neighbor or something when they asked what I have been up to before I got to where I would end up?”
“We are both going to bargain with the demon then. She will make a deal with you and she will make a deal with me and if she doesn’t I will split her several ways and give her to… she will agree and for the most part it will be fair and there will be a time limit on it. She will not be a slave forever. Agreed?”
Lily looked up at him and was quite for a while then she nodded her head in agreement.

A deal was struck it was not what any demon would have considered a fair deal but given the situation Niath was in and who was present when her options were put to her she had agreed. Later that same night she was presented as a mental image to Lily and the second bargain was struck. Volnam who worked as a demonic attorney on the side of the mortals loved finding each and every way to lock Niath out of any room that could be thought up to maneuver. Niath was intelligent and could negotiate but she was not educated in dealing with mortals on fair grounds as the Imp was. There were probably no other caste of demon that had more experience with mortals as a whole than Imps, and the Imp was dealing against her. Niath was promised that she would participate in sex when Lily chose to have it and that it would be often enough to keep up with what was demanded of her power and that was the only concession she was allowed. The whole process took hours and when it was done Niath was back inside Lily and Lily didn’t have the need to keep her locked up. Asmodan offered one last time to let her out before it was all finalized and Lily declined his offer. The Bargain was set Lily and Niath were in a symbiosis from then till Lily’s time was past.
Later in a private mental conversation with Volnam, Asmodan voiced a few questions he had thought up during the negotiations but kept to himself the chief among these was that it sounded to Asmodan like for the most part if Lily held up her end of the deal which was really only to have sex on a semi consistent basis Niath’s power would flow freely but if that was the case wouldn’t Lily live pretty much forever? To this Volnam just nodded and pointed out that no Succubus was smarter than an Imp. Asmodan could feel the flood of caste related prides and prejudices. He then wondered if Lily knew that she had just been negotiated into assisted semi immortality. After Volnam had left the work shop Asmodan then wondered even more impressed with the Imp if the Succubus realized it.
The Warlock took a short nap and then around ten in the morning he headed out into the fogs of Raleigh he could have done it with his eyes closed he wasn’t really using them anyways. Mentally he had reached out until he found the alien mortal mind of Mister Creed. He wondered and walked until he finally found the man who oddly wasn’t surprised to see him. They stood staring at each other for a few minutes neither said anything and finally Asmodan explained that he needed the man he didn’t say for what only that he needed him. From there Creed just followed him. They wandered back Asmodan’s place and Creed got to endure the first floor to the elevator. They reached the fourth floor and Creed was introduced to Mezzphogus.
Things were moving so fast now Asmodan kept thinking to himself. Everything was settled with the demons in the abyss all had been broken down into small units and teams with team leaders and rules and names for each other it was all very military like, which he guessed was good since he had a demonic commander in charge of it all.
Lily walked into the tower a few times over the course of a week testing out the mold, seeing what could and couldn’t be done with it and finally said she had a solution to the problem. Asmodan pressed her for the answer but she never gave it to him, she just told him it wasn’t in his power to do which privately drove him up a wall but she never did say what it was that she was going to do.
Jack stayed in the building, one of the spare rooms. Asmodan had bedding and clothes brought for him it was one of the few things aside from the tower that he had asked Lily to do lately. He didn’t come outside of his room much, when there was food he came out got it and went back. About the time that Lily had come up with a solution to the mold problem in the tower Jack was sitting in his room when there was a knock, When he opened the door he was only slightly puzzled by what he saw, the large blue-purple being that stood in the doorway looking at him with drifting hazy eyes. The human noticed the legs that weren’t legs right after he noted the eyes. It was as if his mind were hardwired to locate things that it could connect with the fog, the legs and the hazy drifting eyes were that connection here. As far as Jack was concerned this being was from the fog. He felt an itching tingling sensation at the back of his skull and somehow in the center of his brain at once and then he heard it.
“You are the one that would serve the Warlock?”
“Serve who?”
“The Warlock.”
As he repeated the title warlock the demon sent a mental image of Asmodan’s face.
“The one who brought the fog? Yes I will serve him.”
“Will you join with me in safe guarding him, as well as any future Warlocks from his line?”
This sounded like it was becoming a long term agreement to Jack but he didn’t think about it long there was a massive feeling of strange in this place and a sickening feeling of wrongness on the first floor which seemed to affect everyone that lived here and none of the people that he had seen come in to visit and then leave again, not that he had seen to many people since he tried to not leave the room and wander too much. He had seen who he thought he heard the sometimes blonde woman call Asmodan’s Lawyer and one of the lawyer’s assistants and he had heard another voice in the hallway though he never saw who the nasally voice belonged to. He had felt this mental itching several times since he had been here as well but this was the first time there was a voice attached to it he quickly put it together that something possibly this mist being before him might have been reading his mind maybe gauging if he was worthy of the current offer being laid out for him now. If the fog wanted him then the fog could have him.
“Yes but there are many things that I don’t currently understand.”
“You will.”
As soon as the human heard the words in his mind the powerfully built being seemed to fall forward onto him arms extended out towards him. Jack had the instincts and the reflexes to get back out of the reach of the thing but his mind couldn’t get the command to the rest of his body. The body of the being seemed to envelope him and he welcomed the sensation it was so much like the embrace of the fog which he had begun to miss. This fog however did not float around him it began to flow into him it invaded, there was an odd but not painful sensation as it flowed into every opening it could find he involuntarily clenched his bottom at the violation and then forgot it as he felt what it must be like to sweat in reverse. He felt the fog begin to seep through the pores of his skin. Finally he just seemed to fall over; there was no pain he had just been taken into sensory overload. All he could see was the purple blue substance that made up the demon thing as he absorbed it into the tissues around his eyes all he could hear was the odd muffled slurffing noise that was made as it entered his ears which also seemed to create an insane level of vertigo and finally he just fell back onto the ground. He didn’t actually hit the ground the demon that was soaking itself into him absorbed the impact of the fall. Jack finally just kind of became aware when the process was over. He was there in the room but he was not alone he looked around and saw no one else but he instantly understood because as soon as he looked for the other being it addressed him from inside his head. It was with him it would always be with him and he would always be with it. It sank in naturally it didn’t shock or scare him it just seemed like that was how it was always supposed to be. Jack who had been cheated and let down and abandoned, would never be alone again. Slowly at first he also understood that he had been unstable and as far as the Warlock was concerned untrustworthy because of the instability but now he was stable now he could be trustworthy because the Mezzphogus was with him Mezzphogus was what he had been missing and now he was complete and could be trusted an relied upon. As he realized this and accepted it he began to realize so many other things he and the construct were completely one and he was learning that they both knew what the other knew. No that wasn’t right. It wasn’t one and the other not anymore it was just him.
Jack Creed the murderer and the thief melted away, his ego his personality everything that made him what he was as an individual, all the fault he had picked up in his life, his justifications for his actions since the fog had rolled in. All of it melted away and Mezzphogus stored it as memories but dulled the emotions that were associated with it or maybe muted them. Jack felt like a new man a completely new man but in the background in that space where a normal person thinks to them self and listens to themselves as they think in that space where they hear their thoughts but it is still them listening for Jack that space was no longer him it was Mezzphogus. The demon like construct had embedded its consciousness into Jacks subconscious; once everything that could later cause conflict was removed the construct for the most part went dormant leaving the new and improved Jack to himself.
Jack Fog climbed up to his feet. Everything was different now there was no single way to describe it to himself he was just aware of it. Aware of so much now, the fog he understood was nature’s way of covering something she was embarrassed about it was a sign of abomination. He understood also why the fog was there and that it was his masters mistake but one that would soon be corrected. Jack understood that his master had made many mistakes but that it was due to the lack of proper instruction and he felt slightly at fault for that. Jack at first took issue with the sudden referencing of Asmodan as his master but he understood where that was coming from as well. It was part of the tradeoff for…  hmm he understood that he would never grow old now that he would be close to physically indestructible he could be destroyed but it was a very hard thing to do. Jack also understood magic but realized that it wouldn’t work for him in the same way it would for Asmodan or another human that tried to do it. He was a being forged from magic not a being to forge magic this also didn’t upset or depress him it was just the way it was he had never needed magic or had giving it any real thought before, it was something that wasn’t real until a few minutes ago. Jack looked out into the hallway and realized it was like he now had high definition vision he saw everything and he caught almost all of it and as he thought back on what he saw Mezzphogus pointed out the few things he missed. Again it was something that there was no real point in explaining magical vision isn’t something that could be explained to someone who didn’t have it. He could just pick out all the details but not only the physical details he understood aspects of things as he saw them. He felt that he would better understand the implications of this as he had more chance to use it. After looking down the hallway he noticed a blurred movement and as he stared at it he noticed the Imp inside of it. he understood that he could notice the imp inside of it because Mezzphogus had been crafted to help the Warlock and one of the ways he provided that help was in security and being able to notice things that could sneak up on the Warlock and harm him was built into the weaving of the spell that bound him together. The invisible Imp froze mid step as he noticed that the human down the hallway was staring straight at him. When Jacks gaze did not shift away after a few seconds the Imp took another few steps forward and when Jack’s eyes followed him he dropped the spell that held him hidden and hopped into the air to glide over to the mortal.
“How did you know I was there Fog Fanatic?”
The Imp asked outloud in what was now a very clear English accent.
“I saw you Warlock Familiar.”
The Half human replied in perfectly sent mind speak.
“You are my most favorite Human.”

The Imp laughed as it continued on past him down the hallway towards a window.

31 Deal or no Deal

Danny checked on Lily often the week following her abduction as far as he could tell and as far as she would tell him she could remember nothing after leaving the club and before standing in the old tobacco barn naked holding the small knife. Danny tried to ask her about her interactions with Niath now that he knew that the she demon was awake and talking in there the girl would tell him nothing about it. He wanted to know and he knew how to find out but the Lily’s will had already been violated so many ways and he was sure it would be again, on this he would leave it alone. She seemed to have control for the most part.
The Warlock had spent most of his time double checking everything. The glyphs on the beltline to create the wall, making sure that the Demons understood the role they were to play in the city once they were loosed. His double checking and constant questioning became all the more frantic because each time he tried to contact his brothers spirit it was getting that much harder to get him to care enough to come back to a focused point of consciousness that they could communicate. Once he was back to himself Renault was fine, the specter was focused and very much wanted to have the process completed it was just all the more complicated to get his attention. When Asmodan only had to say his name before he now had to mentally shout out into the sky and wait to see if he could get a response. Then came the day he had to get Lily to open the tower for him.
“You want me to what?”
“Come on, really? I explained all this to you almost as soon as you had the bitch securely nested inside. You need to make the Mold not hostile to me; I need the top floors to myself.”
“I don’t know that I can do that.”
“Then make Niath do it, I know she has to have some sort of influence. She knows it too. She can hear me in there can’t she? How tight of a chain do you keep her on?”
“I don’t like going to her for things.”
“Then don’t, let her loose I will cut the deal with her. Let me talk to her.”
“No it’s my body I call the shots here.”
Danny had been trying to broach this topic several times over the last week, each time Lily changed the subject or left the room or just ignored him. By this point he was tired of the whole process and was ready to just try removing the demon and going from there. As the thought crossed his mind he decided to play the gambit and see what it got him.
“Lily I know that this whole thing has sucked for you. I know that she has screwed with you and that you have had to deal with Volnam and Renault and a mile long list of stuff that no one should have to deal with. I know that going into that building is also probably something that you don’t want to do and honestly I don’t think you should have to. It will take me a few hours to get ready but tonight I will remove Niath from you and you will be free of that whole side of it.”
With that said the warlock turned to leave the hallway outside her door and head upstairs to the room that he had reduced Niath to her basic essence in the first time. He hoped that she would stop him before he made it to the elevator but she did not. As he stood waiting for the elevator to come to his floor he glanced down the hall to see if she was coming and was annoyed to see that she was not. Getting back off the elevator he made his way to the workroom and began to focus his mind on the crystal sphere that the she-demon had been locked up in previously. There wasn’t actually any preparation that he needed to remove Niath he was relatively sure he could just rip the demoness out and force her back into the sphere but he wanted Lily to think about things so that she could honestly decide that she wanted the demon out or she wanted to help Danny take the tower.

Niath said nothing until the Warlock had entered the elevator and headed back upstairs. The Succubus still wasn’t exactly sure what he could and couldn’t sense with regards to her inside the humans mind. He acted like he could sense nothing but he was too powerful to be that stupid in the succubus’ opinion.
“You wish me gone then? Do we not have a good time?”
“Um less than a month ago I woke up staring at a mutilated naked man. I was also naked and covered in his blood and I was holding the knife that mutilated him. No Niath that is not a good time.”
“For you maybe. Do you forget that that man hit you with his car abducted you and took you to an old building in a desolate field to have his way with you. He planned to enjoy cutting you almost as much as I enjoyed cutting him, ohh if only the Warlock were not so good at finding things. I was only getting started I had not worked my way up past his waist line yet.”
“See that that right there. That whole situation the crystal that Danny has now, when he learned about that he was disgusted by them. He carries one now one that he made himself.”
“That is not my fault that is not your fault that was his action; he created that stone, inflicted that punishment out of his feelings for you.”
“What? He has no feelings for me; he never got past his wife.”
“The Warlock may not have the feelings for you that you would like him to have but there is no denying the look on his face when he entered through the wall of the building to save you.”
As she mentioned the look on Asmodan’s face Niath gave a perfect recollection of the look on the Warlocks face, As she let the image sit in focus in Lily’s mind the succubus also pointed out that details like the fact that though she stood there naked in a body under the influence of a Succubus in the heat of her most beloved work there was not an ounce of lust in the Male’s face something that Niath seemed a little let down by.  There was only worry, concern and compassion then when he turned his face to the man who had taken Lily every dark and violent emotion that a man has was evident in his face. Niath could actually point out the markers for each and every one of these darker emotions in every line and contortion on the Warlocks face.
“Lily do not be fooled by this Male that you know, I happen to know from intimate experience with the Warlock that when he is set in a task he can be very unemotional and extremely detached in his work.”
Lily could feel a shudder through the part of her soul that the succubus resided in. As much as the demon liked to chide that Asmodan was an amateur in the art of torture and that the few days the succubus spent alone with him and his retribution for her deceit in making him think that he had freed his wife from death. The succubus was terrified of ever having to deal with the Warlock in that aspect ever again. Lily was sad that her friend was capable of something so horrible as to have an actual demon scared of him in his wrath.
“So you want me to help him or you want me to let you help him?”
“I only suggest that I would have much more fun with you and your prudish ways than I would have with him and that damned Imp of his. Who knows, maybe once his brother is returned to him we could travel a little bit. Maybe with him… Maybe without him. I could show you how the truly rich and powerful of your world see things.”
“How is that?”
“Because I can make the truly rich and powerful want to keep you with them, Offer you anything you want to keep you near.”
“So if I am willing to be some rich old guy’s sex toy then I can have anything I want?”
“Have you had to engage in intercourse so far?”
“Well… No.”
“What would make you think you would have to in the future? All though eventually you will find that you need to.”
“And why is that?”
“I am succubus like everything my power comes from somewhere. Think about that.”
“So when are you gonna be running on fumes?”
“I was just about out of power when the human abducted us. Now that I had time to feed from him-”
“You promised that we didn’t actually have sex with that guy.”
“We did not; I fed on his pain and his fear. My appetites can vary slightly. I am still a demon we do naturally have the ability to feed on the darker more sour aspects of humanity. Some would rather surround themselves with the pleasures of the flesh as oppose to the torments of it. But... If you would rather I flay a person from time to time rather than have world ending sex now and again that is up to you I suppose.”
Lily sat in silence for a few minutes she didn’t like the situation she was in but lately she never did. She knew that Niath was a key to a charmed life and who ever really got a chance to live one of those? She also knew that Asmodan would take Niath from her to get what he needed. The Warlock had proven that he would do whatever he needed to do to get what he wanted. Morals, rules, laws he had already proven that all of those meant little or nothing to him. Lily knew that he wouldn’t hurt her if he could help it but she didn’t doubt that he would inconvenience her to get what he needed. He might give her some discomfort if he had to. Then she thought about some of the ideas that Niath had dangled in front of her. Traveling with the kind of power over people that Niath had could be wonderful. She could do whatever she wanted see whatever she wanted. That was why Niath had said what she had said though and Lily caught on to it at the moment. The Demon had said exactly what it knew it needed to say so that Lily would not let the Warlock extract her. Alone Lily was weak and she knew it, with Niath Lily could do whatever she wanted and she knew that too. Tears rose in her eyes as she tried to tell herself that she didn’t need the demon that she could get rid of it and be fine. She wiped them away and tried to get a grip on herself some of that control that Asmodan seemed to be able to pull up and wrap his emotions in when he needed. She found some of that control then and she found something else with the control she found a small measure of power she wasn’t sure where she found it she knew that the idea didn’t come from the demon because something like that Niath would never seed into her thoughts.
“Yes Lily?”
The human could feel the discomfort in the succubus as she responded. She liked that discomfort she didn’t know if it was genuine or not it probably wouldn’t be hard for the succubus to trick her mentally the demon had an untold number of years to practice at these sorts of things. Lily wasn’t even sure that her sudden big idea wouldn’t come back to stab her in the back later but it made her feel like she had control now and she drastically needed to feel like she had some level of control.
“A bargan?”
“Really? And what are you proposing to me?”
“Has life here within me been better or worse than life in the… wherever it is that you are actually from?”
“It is a hard question to answer directly. There I have the freedom to do what I want when I want to do it.”
“And at any given time any horrible thing can happen to you from any number of things right?”
“Do not assume that I am some week spirit to be controlled by anything that passes me mortal I have power I have experience and I have the will to use both.”
“Don’t start puffing yourself up that’s not what I am looking for here.”
“And what are you looking for then?”
“We help Asmodan do what he wants we get him the top floors of this building, then we go on our way. You are mine and swear never to work against me in anyway and we go live a charmed life.”
“Absurd. You think I am a fool. I would willingly just give up freedom and the possibility to do what I want in the material world on what? The threat that you would have me sent to my own home plane?”
“No not on the threat that you get sent to your own home. Think about it if I tell Asmodan no, what is he going to do with you? Once he has done it, who is going to get you as his own demented plaything? How long will Volnam keep you like that until he what? Drops the ball and it breaks and maybe you get away before they imprison you all over? When you lost to Asmodan you lost a lot in a big way. You do know that Warlocks have to be killed right? They don’t die of old age you can’t just endure for fifty or sixty years then wait around for your freedom. I know that man, what you did; that trick making him think you were Monique? There is nothing that you could have done that would have landed you further on his dark side. How many years will I live? Think about it Niath you work to my benefit for the rest of one mortal life and then what happens?”
Lily left that last question and waited. She knew that the Demoness was self-serving to a fault. She also strongly relied on the fact that she knew that the Succubus didn’t want to end up back were Volnam would have control over her. She was hoping against hope that by pointing out the shortness of a human life to a being that would live forever would be enough to make it a simple decision. Niath though was not yet long lived enough to think that fifty or sixty years was equal to a short nap. There were demons out there even other Succubae who had been around so long as to think of a hundred years as a drop in the bucket but playing by Lily’s that long had absolutely no appeal to her.
“No, Let the Warlock take me. His life is going to be an exciting one. Something will happen I will end up free before too long.”
Lily laughed out loud for a second she was actually to the point where she could feel the uncertainty in the she demon.
“You are bluffing Niath I can feel it. What do you have a counter offer?”
“I am a damned Sex demon I thrive off of it. I need it is what my caste does. We are not lowly torturers of flesh we do not solely inflict pain on a being we are Mistresses of pleasure and pain Mortals would and have offered up their immortal soul for a night with me knowing that in the end I take all. You would have me give my power freely to you and you have denied me my most basic driving desire. There is no deal; you will lose me unless you give me what I need to thrive.”
Lily headed out of her room towards the elevator. She opened up the rest of her mind as she went she let the Succubus see into her thoughts she let her see that she was heading straight to Asmodan to have her removed. Elevator chimed and Lily got on and pressed the button for the top floor. Niath at that point panicked and mentally attacked with everything she had. Lily’s Body locked up and she fell back against the closed door she shook with spasms. Her eyes rolled up in her head and she looked every bit like every person who had ever been seen in a movie that was about an exorcism and was fighting for their soul and control over their first and only true possession their body. The door opened on the top floor and she fell out onto the thin office building like carpet. Lily hadn’t been completely taken off guard though she knew that the Succubus would have to attempt something like this if she was pushed far enough. Despite being lightly prepared to defend against an attack she was almost completely overwhelmed from the onset. Niath was attacking every part of her, each and every self-doubt ever thing she had ever feared or worried about in her life the size of her breast in middle school when they developed before the other girls her age the size of her hips in high school when they were fuller than her classmates and she had that awkward time finding clothes that fit just right that all girls who have ever walked the planet have had to deal with. Everything ever was being thrown at her now like it wasn’t a lifetime of issues that had come up and put down they were all presented to her as if she had to go through all of them at once in this instant. She saw loved ones faces melt from their skulls she relived every beating that Larry ever gave her, each thing that Danny had ever done to her that made her feel weak of foolish or ignorant. She felt the weakness that went with each of these incidents all of them piling up around and over her to drowned her and crush her. Lewd looks that some girls took as rude complements from the cretins on the street were assaults on her, made her feel dirty for looking a way that would invite such a disgusting look from another person and it wasn’t his fault for giving the look it was her for making him think that way. Every time that Volnam had teased prodded poked at her tried to do this very thing to her for fun because she was weak and he knew he could do it to her and she couldn’t do anything about it.
That was it though, the mistake in Niath’s assault. Yes Volnam had done this to her before and being reminded of it and that slight mental preparation that Niath might try something like it now gave her what she needed. Slowly the walls began to come up just like she learned to do to keep that bastard Imp out of her head and in the rare case where he got in when she wasn’t ready to force him back out. First she was mentally forcing doors closed and locking them then while Niath tried to break the locks she began walling up her side of the door. She had almost won almost closed the Bitch demon into her corner again when all her perceptions changed it was like the world got shifted on her somehow things weren’t right anymore. She wasn’t laying on the floor in the hallway upstairs she was naked in the hot tub water frothing away on the third floor Niath sitting in the tub across from her. She screamed and began to scramble out of the pool and then couldn’t she locked in place her legs slid back down to a comfortable position her arms drifted out with the bubbling current the water just washed over and around her.
“There, see we have not yet moved passed words have we?”
Niath wore Lily’s face her body but instead she had her own features mixed in with them her horns were fully formed ending in thumb length sharp tips pointing up and back over her head her tail drifted lazily in the water and her wings were tucked tightly behind her back. She had her most mesmerizing smile in place and her voice was like honey. Its effect was almost as instant as the driving force that had her sit down and relax in the water. Lily knew she had to get up had to get out of this somehow. What she didn’t understand was where she was it was the rec room but it was odd there were details that were not the same, they were somehow better. Then it dawned on her, this was the rec room had she been the one to put all the finishing touches on it.
“I gave you a deal you turned it down.”
“No love you had given me an ultimatum and did not give any chance at counter offer. It was very rude and you do not have the power to back insults like that up. You are not a Warlock.”
“Love? What do you know about that word?”
“More than you I think. You have never had it, you have had a series of relationships that you have felt safe in or comfortable in but you have never been in love if you had you would never have stood for the things that you have allowed to happen to you. You are abused that is one of the reasons the Warlock has you.”
“Ask him about the Abused.”
“So what is this?”
“Our last chance to negotiate a fair bargain before I flay your mind, destroy your soul then try to escape with your body before the Imp or Warlock subdue me.”
“I think I was about to win and this is your last ditch effort to no be handed over. I think that if I figure a way out of this room I will have you.”
“Try it. But outside that door is a lifetime of mind shredding madness.”
“If I was allowed to try it why can’t I move?”
“I just wanted you to hear me out before you willingly destroy yourself.”
“It comes back down to sex. I just want to fuck.”
Lily cringed noticeably at the statement. Niath smiled knowingly at her when she did. The two sat facing each other there in the hot tub water bubbling and frothing away around them.
“You are not religious. What is it that stops you from this simple act? It is empowering, in our case it would be so literally.”
“It should be something special between two people, not something that you do just because you can, it’s not a game.”
“Yes exactly. You are right, I agree completely. It is special it is not a game, it is spiritual it is powerful. I do not agree that it has to be between two people alone, I would take it with fifteen or fifty when I could. But if you wish to enact rules then I am open to that to an extent but if you are to have my power then I will have to feed that power. If you wish to have a chosen mate and keep the act with that person alone then at least rest assured that I can make sure that it is never boring. Well not if the male you choose is open minded enough.”
Lily didn’t so much as hear it in the Succubus’ voice but she could feel it just the same maybe because they were in her head maybe it was something else. The she-demon was doing a very good job of hiding it but she was pleading she was dreading being handed over to Asmodan again. Lily could tell from this that the Succubus didn’t think that she had as strong of a position as she wanted Lily to believe. But she could also feel the truth of what the demon was trying to get across to her. If she wanted to use the Succubus’ power then she was going to have to feed it somehow. You can’t drive a car without putting fuel in it.
“I agree to regular sex and you agree to the deal?”
“It is the only way that your bargain can work. The longer we go without our vices the less control we are able to maintain on ourselves it is why most of the denizens of the sphere of destruction are so destructive.”
“The who are what?”
“Has the Warlock not explained this to you?”
“Danny has only really explained what he thinks might keep me safe and avoided everything else.”
“Ahh I see. It explains why some of the information I expected to find in your mind is absent. All Demons have a drive some it is pleasure others it is a drive for domination over others for a large majority it is blind wonton destruction. The Sphere… place in the abyss where I met Asmodan is largely populated with beings who are solely to compelled to destroy for no other reason than it is what they are driven to do. But… that place where they reside is comprised of a crystal that is all but indestructible and even with levels of strength that you would consider impossible they cannot scratch their surroundings. I can at least sate my desires with them. They can’t sate their strongest drives on anything but other demons that they come across.”
“Sate them on you?”
“Some have tried. This is more than a beautiful set of extra curves.”
As she spoke Niath lifted her barbed tail up from the water and waved it from side to side slowly before letting it slide back below the surface.
“Volnam said it only got him stoned.”
“He is an Imp. There are very few creatures in the Abyss that have a more lethal sting than those rotten little spell hoarders. That also gives them a rather high tolerance to other demon’s poisons. For him my venom which would kill a mortal in a drop if I wanted it to would be no more than a very potent narcotic here. Something like a heroin overdose but it would not kill him only makes him useless until he was able to pass it through his system.”
“So you can control what your venom does?”
“Yes we are not like your reptiles our venom is not just a string of proteins or bacteria or whatever it is they are made of we are beings of magic and spirit. If I wish my venom to intoxicate and coerce someone to lay with me then that is what it will do. If I want it to flood the brains of a fool until his mind runs out through his ears and nose then that is what will happen.”
“So all your power is based on your intention at the time the power is used?”
“Of course it is, if you want to pick up your brush how much planning do you put into it? You do not you just pick it up. Assuming you have been feeding yourself and are not starved of the strength you need to perform such an action.”
Lily frowned at the succubus catching the obvious push to get the direction back to the topic that most pressed on the sex demon. Sex. Lily knew a lot of girls in her life that had a lot more sex than her and she hadn’t even considered them sluts she just never wanted to get close enough to the term that anyone might consider throwing it her way. She knew her flaws but she was always kind of proud of the fact that she didn’t just throw herself at any handsome face that happened to smile at her. It didn’t sound like that’s what Niath was pushing on her either. There was no set number of partners or encounters that the demon had thrown out as a suggestion it just seemed like the demon wanted the promise that there would in fact be sex. Lily had never planned on swearing off the activity she just hadn’t wanted to have it with the demon watching or helping or using her to do it for her or however that strange scenario would have to play out. She assumed now that the demon would have to have some hand in it to fill her sex batteries or however she wanted to explain it.
“Niath I believe that we have an agree-“
As she was addressing the demon she could see Niath’s face light up. But she was cut off when suddenly the door from the hallway to the rec room shook twice so violently that the wall attached to it and the floor beneath it shook she watched cracks in the wall spider out and away from it. There was only a brief instant of silence and then tremors could be felt moving on down the hall. No more than a second later there was literal mind splitting pain as a massive black purple arm thickly corded with muscle smashed in through one of the windows on this mental Recreation room and reached in and across for Niath. She had seen the arm before she had seen the demon lord that it was attached to and all the demon cunning and ferocity instantly drained out of her. As the massively clawed hand of the Pit fiend reached out for her. She climbed to her feet and stood tail limp in the water arms and wings lax at her back and sides and a look that was a mix of total hopelessness and complete terror painted on her face. The face that was now completely her own, no longer a mix of her demonic features and Lily’s body this was completely Niath. The Warlock had sent his most powerful companion for her and he did it in defense of Lily. The possession was too powerful of a play to pull in an elevator and hallway where it would be seen. Niath only vaguely wondered if the Human would let the Lord have her or only hold her until he wanted to have her back for himself. Lily watched the doomed Succubus as she was lifted from the hot tub and hauled back out of the window. There was a horrible laughing that came from everywhere Lily had guessed that it had to be everywhere since this was all technically taking place inside her head as far as she could put it together. The Laughing was the worst thing that she had ever heard before in her life and she was not capable to describing it to herself. When her mind attempted to describe it further than just bad and scary and laughter she lost herself. The conscious mind that had been her way of interacting in this setting Niath had put together to talk to her simply stopped working; she passed out inside her own head.

30 Mezzphogus

Asmodan led the demon back into his private suite and once there the Demon began an almost ceaseless torrent of questions. He asked about Asmodan’s lineage his parents his upbringing how he was approached by Volnam. He was asked about his training the methods used the topics covered the experience he had had so far. The questions didn’t seem like they were going to end until Asmodan finally got tired of it and said that was done and began to fire questions back at his interrogator. In that time he learned that the bruise colored demon was hardly a demon at all but a construct built by a long dead Warlock that had worked for them ever since. When asked the creature explained that he was constructed from all demonic material and formed with demonic magiks around an already tainted soul and so for all intents and purposes he was a demon just not one that came about by the traditional means and because of that he was not bound to many of the inherent flaws like predispositions to destructive behaviors he was bound to his purpose which Asmodan learned was to be a bodyguard for the most part. Mezzphogus served the Warlocks that was almost all there was to the core of this demon. When asked about the books mentioned by the Demon out in the meeting hall the Demon explained that the truly powerful of the Warlocks created and maintained the Codex Destregeth, the Soul volumes of the Warlocks. They were many books in one book and the Demon would not elaborate much past that. He did explain that they were the teaching tool used by a current Warlock to train a new Warlock. The idea of one teaching another confused Asmodan because he had always thought that one Warlock had to die for there to be another.
There was a brief argument when the frustrated Demon commented that Asmodan was no Warlock at all, that aside from his ability to use the commanding voice he was little more than a Human wizard that was acting as a Demon warlord. Asmodan returned fire with the fact that if Mezzphogus had been a better guardian the Warlock’s wouldn’t have died out and he would have had a proper teacher. Then they got to the topic of what had actually happened to the last master that Mezzphogus had served.
“Anton was my last master, I do not know the time in your years that I served him. He kept me here, and in all the time that I served him he did not take me to the material plane. “
“What happened to him?”
“He set out to battle an arch demon and did not return.”
“Did that demon have a name?”
“Master Anton referred to it as Flame and Shadow though many arch demons have much longer and more descriptive names.”
“So that’s it for information about my last Warlock ancestor? He went to see a Demon about a thing and never came back?”
“Unfortunately that is so. Had he taken me with him it might have been different.”
“You are that much of a bad ass?”
“As far as can be told so far I am close to indestructible.”
“That’s a hell of a claim for anything to make.”
“It has been tested extensively, as far as any of your predecessors can tell I cannot be killed.”
“Well most demons can’t be killed.”
“Many demons can be killed you just do not have the knowledge to do it.”
“That’s not true; I know that with enough fire, enough heat you can take one out.”
“You can for a time but it will eventually grow back that is not death.”
“No. I killed one with fire, a Casaganoth.”
“Had you reduced it completely to dust eventually it will wonder the abyss again.”
“Dead enough for me.”
Mezzphogus sighed or did what made a sigh sound however many hundred miles away his voice was echoing in from but it got there just the same. Asmodan could feel the frustration and the disappointment radiating off of this thing in waves.
“Look I know that I’m not what you were hoping to find, if you even feel hope. But there are lots of things that I’ve had to do that I did not want to do. If you know a better way lay it on me I am open to options.”
“There is a mindset that comes with a set upbringing that you were denied. I do not think that it can be overcome. You are too old to begin the training.”
Asmodan burst out laughing. The demon did not understand the joke and stared at the human. Asmodan didn’t feel like explaining it to him and moved on.
“So what now then? Can’t you do it? Teach how it’s supposed to be or something?”
“I was not made aware of the material; I was never allowed to sit with the book and study. Nor would I have wanted to my task is protecting the Warlock.”
“So do you plan on continuing your task?”
“I am not sure. You are not really a Warlock.”
The not Warlock glared at the not Demon for a minute then looked away in frustration. After a few more seconds of thought Danny finally decided that he was done wasting his time.
“Fine I’m not really the Warlock or a Warlock, whatever. Get lost I have things to do. Didn’t even get a sword out of it lying Imp.”
Mezzphogus turned and headed for the exit and met with the Imp standing in his way. The two stood facing each other for a few seconds and Mezzphogus turned to look back at the human.
“Anton lives on in you, your offspring will be the offspring of Anton I will safeguard you so that the next generation might not be twisted. We will find the book then with it we will find the other lost artifacts.”
After he spoke Mezzphogus moved to stand beside the entrance to Asmodan’s rooms and remained there silently. He did not move his gel like skin flowed or pulsated or however Asmodan could work best to describe it and his mist legs still poured to the ground where it seemed to vanish but beyond that he might as well have been a statue.
Asmodan asked Volnam what the Imp had done to change the demons mind and Volnam explained to the bewildered human that he had shown him some of the things that Volnam had encountered in Danny’s head. When Mezzphogus was shown the face of the person who Volnam had encountered in the depths of Danny’s mind, the face that defended him. The blue demon-construct changed his mind. Volnam ventured the guess that the face was Anton and that was why he was going to stick around.
“You lied about the sword.”
The Warlock mentally accused the Imp. Volnam looked up at him and gave a little hiss. The Imp was moving quite awkwardly. Most of the Imps bones having been shattered only a short time before, they were mending at the quickened rate that most damage done to his kind did.
“Did I?”
Asmodan glared at the Imp another few seconds then looked over at the not demon demon standing at near the entrance.
“I know you don’t like me or aren’t impressed with me or whatever and I have plans and frankly I don’t really care at this point, but the Imp said that you brought a sword was that even true or was he lying to me?”
The Blue hulk didn’t seem to move at all but below its chest where Asmodan would have put its belly button the gold tip of what looked like it could have been a sword pommel was slightly exposed and then hidden again.
“Man… so there is a sword?” Asmodan half whined.  “Whatever… you know I could make you give it to me.”
At that Mezzphogus turned to stare at the human.
“Are you a swordsman or some other form of martial warrior?”
“No I-“
“It would reject you even if you were to force me to hand it over to you.”
“Can I at least try?”
“If you had been trained you would not need it you would have a shard blade.”
“If I was trained I would have gotten a sword?”
“You would have learned to form one from collected soul shards.”
Asmodan’s nose crinkled when he heard mention of the shards.
“You know about soul shards then?”
“Volnam explained them to me.”
“And you do not like them?”
“It seems like a horrible thing to do to a mortal soul.”
“What’s Interesting?”
The demon had chosen that point in time to go back to his statue impression.

Once all of the changes had been made to the valley and all the demons had been sorted and noted so that Asmodan could review notes on the castes and physical appearances of the demons he would have access to when the time came. He opened a portal and Volnam, Mezzphogus and Himself moved back through into the mortal plane.

Lily was on the dance floor with a writhing mass of bodies trying to get near enough to rub some part of themselves onto some part of her. She could see the ones further out in the crowed getting close to manic in the need to try and work their way closer into the press of bodies to get nearer to her but those closest to her were too busy pressing in tighter to each other to get in with her but Niath was also active in this experiment and as they grinded almost painfully into each other to get nearer to her she moved in time with them and the music and no one seemed to touch her at all except when she intentionally moved in or out in time to let them touch her on purpose. She had learned that as long as she was thinking about it at the time of the touch each time she passed the lust powered spell out to the person she touched it would pass out to all of the others in a massive chain reaction little electricity she shocked and sparked their lust each time she left a thigh out long enough to touch another thigh or pressed her bottom back into the hips of someone behind her. This close she didn’t need to see any of them she knew where they all were even with the pounding music she heard and smelt everything there were other intellects that she had learned to use that she couldn’t even actively explain to someone else and through these she seemed to just understand what was going on around her and she moved with it perfectly. Niath was there in the back helping her loving this. If it was up to the Demoness Lily would never leave the clubs she would move from one to the next and only leave to have the most disgusting sex that a mortal could probably not mentally survive. Lily’s time around Volnam had proven helpful if only to insure that she had a rock solid mental constitution and Niath had all but given up on taking control of the body against Lily’s will. The Succubus was pleased however to note that on occasion the human had entertained the idea of giving control for a limited time just to see what it was like. She often did allow Niath to share the reins as she did now. Niath helped her control the crowd and as she did she was fore enough in the mind to feel everything around her. Succubae were demons of experience and this was what they needed even if it was not as extreme as what they would create for themselves it was more than she had had freely in a very long time.  Each pulse she sent out into them she sent blind lust and desire she let them all know how virile they were or how desired they were by the men around them if they were female. If she wanted she could turn this entire establishment into a massive blind orgy on the floor with her moving amongst all of them, well maybe not if she wanted. Lily wouldn’t allow it and Niath knew it. Using glamor and misdirection she choose another female to be the center of attention and lithely moved amongst the crowd until she was free to move to the bar. There was too much time spent in the upkeep of a mortal body constantly have to eat and drink to maintain health to have the energy needed to continue with the things one wanted to do was a hassle. When Niath offered to show Lily how to use alternative means to fuel her body Lily refused the Mortal was very smart about how she talked to Niath she never made promises or deals even though Niath was aware of the fact that even had they made a deal the Human could just break her word and do what she wanted regardless of anything she agreed on.
Lily ordered a drink and ran her hand down the man’s arm when he handed it to her there for getting the drink for free. She then turned to lean back against the bar and watched the people dancing they were one large organism one arm movement here unconsciously causing a movement there. She understood all of it in a way that no one else present could have. She could see or smell or by some means she couldn’t explain see all the clouds of pheromones from each person as they mixed and swirled were inhaled and exhaled and changed into something else as they all moved around the room and connected every person in the place. This was what Lily understood of what she saw. What Niath took in was the living thing and where she could push or pull to excite just a little too much and from the living thing that was on the floor in front of them cause the growths and the cancers to appear where two might move off together and possibly go home for a night of passion she could make it happen too fast and cause it to take place here with everyone else and have them involved with it, to have her involved with it. She needed too so bad, it had been too long she needed that release; it was part of what she was as a creature. Lily flatly denied her at every turn, she loved the attention and sometimes the petting and fondling she enjoyed every step of every act leading up to actually taking the other person but she always shut her playmate and her body mate down cold. How Niath could have ended up bonded to the body of what has to be the largest flirt in all the planes of existence? Niath suggested that maybe if they seduced Asmodan that would be ok since the damned and cursed warlock was a friend and not a stranger and Lily dismissed it out of hand. She could enjoy this… all of this without turning herself into a slut she had told the Succubus. To which the Demoness instantly replied that the point of life was being a slut, she argued that slut was a term used by mortals to describe those that were getting more enjoyment out of life. But that time as in all times like it since they had been communicating openly with each other Lily said no and then walled the demon off in the back of her head.
She continued watching the crowd move and sway in time with the music she did the same slightly as she leaned back both elbows on the bar as she drank her cranberry vodka, she listened to the ideas and suggestions of her mental roommate. She could feel the needs the succubus suffered from. She understood that eventually she was going to have to let her have her way at least to some extent. To Lily it was a private thing between two people and she couldn’t handle the idea of doing it with someone else in the back of her head or even in control of her body as she did it. The thought of someone else having sex but using her body? Even with everything that had happened since she began working with Danny the fact that there was a demon living in her head. The Idea of have help or input or… it was too much for her that one act needed to be just her. Lily knew that the succubus the freaking sex demon would not just sit back and leave that one alone. At the same time though look at everything that the she-demon had done for her, She could do anything get anything people would just hand it over to her smiling the whole time. She could almost see a one night stand to pay for everything she had been able to-. There it was. She caught it as it was happening; Niath was trying to influence her again. Lily thickened the walls around the succubus in her head locked her up tight and decided to call it an early night and head home.
The Blonde who he thought might have been a red head earlier left the bar and moved towards the door. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her. He had tried to dance with her twice and each time he couldn’t get near her each time he tried to approach her at the bar she managed to have people get between them there was nothing he could do to get close enough to talk to her. Now she was leaving he could catch up to her in the parking lot. He made his way to the door after her. This was better he thought, there would be no one that saw them talking in the club. He spotted her near the sidewalk looking back and forth on the street even though he knew she wouldn’t be able to see very far in the fog. He watched her from near the entrance to the club pulling a cigarette from his pocket and acting like he was taking a smoke break before heading back in. she looked back to the parking lot then back to the street finally after a moment’s thought she seemed to have decided on walking. John waited another minute to let her get on her way then headed for his car. Now there are a lot of people who don’t like hybrid cars Prius and Insight are jokes names for people who are all about speed and power and John was one such person for a very long time then one night while stalking along behind someone in the fog waiting for the most opportune moment to pounce he knew there was a narrow alleyway between two building they were coming up on. He waited keeping just far enough back that she would only see an outline should she look over her shoulder and then something passed him quickly on the left it was a grey something it was some sort of highbred car it was almost silent as it sliced through the fog. It was on him and gone and it had scared the hell out of him because he had not heard it coming it was beside him before he noticed it. Within the week Mr. Wayne had his own brand new grey Highbred he had taken it and had it repainted the same color only this time it was matte finished not glossy and he had a custom brush bar mounted to the front. He now had a whole new method for grabbing his victims it might only last as long as the freakish fog lasted but for that time he had had five successful encounters with women he had picked at various bars and clubs in the Raleigh area. As the fog spread to the Cary area he had new places to meet his ladies. He loved his little tear shaped stealthmobile.
John pulled down into the street and slowly turned in the direction tonight’s beauty had taken. Then he sped up to thirty miles an hour he was going almost thirty five when he sharply turned the wheel flew up onto the curb smashed the shocked woman’s legs out and had her head slam back onto the hood of the car. He slammed on the breaks as soon as her head went down and he was instantly out of the car picking her up and tossing her over his shoulder like a large sack seconds later she was laid out across the back seat of the car hands cuffed behind her ankles cuffed as well and he was backing off the curb and driving down the street. It wasn’t long before the fog receded and the street lights gave way to tall trees not far outside of Raleigh in every direction but north there was countryside to get into and country side had a lot of old building in it in this case they headed to an old Tobacco Barn the farm had long since closed down and there didn’t seem to be anything but the road for miles in every direction. The barn was excellent because he himself had only noticed it when looking at the region on google maps. From the street it was blocked by a growth of trees. He drove almost a half mile past the building on the road and then turned off the road on the dirt path that used to serve as a driveway for migrant workers when they came out to work the fields. He followed it back and around there were two other farm buildings he passed also no longer used and late at night the whole place had that abandoned haunted feeling. He pulled his little Prius in next to his other car a red and black jaguar F type sat in the darkness beside the old building a heavy canvas tarp covering it. During the day it was the little grey car that was in hiding. The interior of the building was mostly empty save for a table and a work bench against one wall. Moonlight streamed in through the many cracks in the walls as the rapist grabbed his late night entertainment and carried her inside to lay her out across the table. The woman was certainly blonde he wasn’t sure why it was that he thought she was a red head when he had first spotted her coming into the club. He had her laying on her back and un-cuffed one of her feet and reattached the free end to the leg of the table he took another that was already waiting attached to the other leg of the table and reached to pull her other leg over to it.
“You don’t need those.” A soft voice called to him from above.
The shock of hearing the unexpected voice caused him to lurch and slam his head into the bottom side of the edge of the table. He cursed silently and composed himself. She did not need to address or suggest to him he was the one making the decisions. He stood up with a solidly neutral expression on his face and looked down at her. There was something different now, something wrong he realized. She was fine, there was nothing wrong with her at all, there was no bruising she was completely coherent there was no blood in her hair or on the table from where her head lay. He moved around to the side of the table where her head was and reached out and began feeling the back of her head. There was nothing wrong with it at all not a single scrape.
“Do not worry about that. You cannot hurt me Mortal man. But I do so wish you would try.”
Niath was ecstatic. The impact of the vehicle had caught Lily completely unprepared and knocked her cold. With her out in that manner Niath was let free in the body. It didn’t take long for the she-demon to heal the damage the metal contraption did to the body. Flesh was a plaything for the powers of a succubus they reshaped a body so many times in a day that fixing damage to something as simple as a mortal body was not even something that required active thought.
John moved back down to the foot of the table. The Woman’s annoyingly calm voice seemed to be taunting him now.
“I am not sure if I should have any confidence in you John. With my legs spread like this and secured to the table as they are how are you going to get these wonderfully tight pants off of me?”
The man reached into the pocket of his pants and pulled out a pin knife that had been sharpened to a razors edge. He opened it and was hoping to finally see some shock or fear in the woman’s eyes and he saw only disappointment.
“Ohh dear… I was hoping that you would be bringing something a little larger out to play with.”
He had had enough he wasn’t going to be made fun of. With his free hand he punched out savagely twice to the inside of her left thigh and once straight up between her legs.
“Is that big enough for you!” he screamed at her.
His captive didn’t seem to care that she had been struck. She lifted her head to look more squarely at him.
“I have had bigger to be honest.”
Then she lifted her left leg breaking the leg from the table with no effort at all then the right causing the whole thing to fall so that she was at an angle. Then her arms she snapped free. He stood frozen in place as she snapped his cuffs from her wrists like they were cheap plastic. As she looked at him she smiled.
“I am sure that you have shown other girls a more exciting time then this, but I do approve of the seclusion. I can be loud and I do not want to draw the attention of others that could spoil our fun. Take those off we will not need them.”

Asmodan felt the shock and a second of fear from Lily. It had woken him up. Mentally he searched for her and he could not find her anywhere it took him time to think to contact his brother and ask him if he knew where she was. His brother only replied that she wasn’t in her room. Danny knew that she was never in her room anymore. She was always out, playing with being at least partially a Succubus. Had something more powerful gotten ahold of her? He asked Volnam and the Imp for the most part ignored him. He didn’t care what happened with the human girl. When the Warlock pointed out that she was needed for the tower the Imp went silent and then pointed out that she must be unconscious he mind was gone from him. Then finally the Warlock encountered Mezzphogus in the recreation room. The large blue mass seemed to staring into the hot tub.
“Mezz, I need your help.”
The construct turned to look at the human for a second and then turned back to the water.
“Look I know you don’t like how I’ve turned out you doesn’t need to tell me again. She is my friend I don’t have a lot of those I need to find her-“
A massive purple blue hand came up to silence the man and another pointed down into the hot tub. In the water there was an image of an old tobacco barn out oddly enough near the neighborhood where his house was. As the image shifted in the water Asmodan actually knew exactly where it was. He knew the field and the trees around the barn. He hadn’t known the barn was there but he defiantly knew where it was now. He looked at the blue monstrosity; he hadn’t realized how close to a panic he had been getting.
“Thank you. I’ve wronged her and I haven’t made up for it yet.”
The construct looked back at him and nodded its huge chest mounted head. Replying in its odd double voice.
“Friendship and loyalty are good. It is good to see that you have these still. There may be hope still.”
With that Asmodan was in his car and tearing through streets to get to the place he knew her to be. It normally would have been a thirty minute drive he was there in almost eighteen and he had forced another car into a ditch when they wouldn’t get out of his way. He flew through the ditch that separated the field from the road causing the four tires to do a little hop at over a hundred miles an hour turned it into a short range missile that covered much further than he actually needed to go to cross the six foot expanse. He stopped as soon as he could see the building and once the car had stopped sliding in the loose dirt of the field. The door was open and his form was limed in the hellish green glow of the fiery power that he preferred to shape for his use. He was fueling his power with his own essence while drawing as much as he could form the air around him. As the Warlock stalked towards the building he didn’t care if people could see him before he hit the tree line giving of the now flaring green nimbus of light. He heard a horse screaming coming from inside there was a person who had been tortured beyond its body’s ability to express but it was still trying. Danny flung a hand out in an arc and a line of liquid fire splashed on the wall and ran down to the ground almost instantly burning its way into the building the section that was eaten loose fell inward as the rest of the flames burned their way up the side of the building. When the smoke from his entrance cleared some the Warlock was wholly confused with what he saw. There were what looked like table legs forced into a wall and those legs had a man attached to them he was just far enough from the ground to have his weight on his arms where the warlock could now see that the thin parts of the table legs had been driven through his biceps into the wood of the wall. His bottom was several inches from the ground and there was no way his legs could be used to support his wright. From the waist down he had been… Asmodan had had all form of physical evil done to him but for most of it he had to feel what happened he didn’t see what was done to him. Seeing this caused bile to rise up in the back of his throat. This man’s groin had been eviscerated things had been peeled and exposed to moonlight that ought to never see any light. Cords of muscle had been cut loose and tied in what looked like the bows one would tie and place on a birthday present one half still attached to the body. As the body moved a writhed the bows raised and fell and the attached end still attempted to complete the commands of the brain above. His thighs and calves had received similar treatment. Parts of him had swirls and etchings in the flesh, nothing magical that he could tell just bored doodles of a depraved mind. He turned his gaze to see Lily standing naked covered in blood smiling looking down at her work a pen knife in her hand. She turned to look at him and cursed quietly to herself.
“Warlock know that though I hate you and that you hate me. I have saved your woman this night. I return her to you now.”
Danny threw up his hand and commanded her to wait but it was too late Lily was placed back in charge of her body and looked around in shock at herself the man in front of her and the knife in her hand. She looked around frantically and spotted Danny frozen in his tracks unsure how to react. Then he knew, she dropped the knife from shaking nerveless fingers and held her hands out to him like a confused and terrified child. Danny grabbed her in his arms in an instant.
He still heard the voiceless gasping cries from the man attached to the wall. Mentally he slipped into the man’s mind it was so frantic and thrashed, Niath had done as much playing inside the soul as she had on the flesh. It was a simple thing to look at whatever he wanted. Then he saw the car hitting Lilly he followed that string of events and found the man strapping her to the table then punching her in the groin. He looked at the woman in his arms sobbing and half limp and he almost dropped her in his rage as he looked at this man and knew what he was. Mentally he traced the thoughts the man had attached to memories of this building and finally he stopped himself. Seeing those acts through the eyes of the man who committed them would make the Warlock feel like he had committed them himself. He pulled out of the man’s mind and raised a hand towards him he was about to let loose nightmare power with things that until now he had learned about and not used but then he decided to try something else. Danny picked Lilly up in his arms and carried her naked form out to the car the door still open, he placed her in the driver seat and closed the door she knew better than to touch anything on that side of the car. He then headed back inside the building. Lilly sat in the driver’s side of the car trying to figure out from the little she had seen exactly what had happened to her. She noticed where she touch the car’s seats that the blood was literally sucked off of her skin. Where this would normally freak her out the blood was freaking her out more and she climbed into the back seat and laid down as much as she could letting the blood thirsty vehicle clean the deep purple and red vitae from her body. Then she heard a screaming begin she sat up to see the building Danny had carried her from the flames had traveled up one side and were going across the roof now. A few minutes passed and she watched a Prius float up into the air and then out past the trees to land softly on the street one wheel over the ditch then another car that was covered with a tarp floated out into the field and was sat down. A second later the roof collapsed on the building and she watched Danny’s black silhouette outlined in fire as he moved back towards the car. When he was closer she saw that he was on a cellphone. When he got into the car she could tell he was on the phone with Algie.
“Yeah it’s a Jag, if you can have someone pick it up and paint it I want to give it to Lilly she should get something other than therapy out of this.”
Another few minutes passed as he sat in the driver’s seat and he reached into his pocket and pulled out a faintly glowing green blue gemstone almost six inches long two deep and three wide. He stared at it for a few seconds and then tossed it back to her. She didn’t catch it and it landed on her stomach. She lay back in the seat looking at it. Finally when she said nothing Danny said in a whisper over his shoulder as he started driving off towards the road.

“Lilly meet John the Rapist.”

29 Moving faster now

It took Lily three days to get back with Asmodan she told him that she was happy with how she was now and then from that point on she seemed to avoid him completely. The Warlock noticed that she would wait during a normal eight hour day of work and then she would leave for most of the night. If he needed anything from her he called, that was it between them. Danny worried that things were ruined between them now. He felt that he may have lost a friend if that word could be applied to the relationship that they had.
In the days after she let him know that she was happy and then began to almost completely ignore him Asmodan spent wandering around in the fog. He was still focused on his plans but rather than scheme in his rooms and write things down in his endless notebooks he would run thoughts through his mind and see what he could work through without Volnam interfering or making suggestions that were usually nowhere near being acceptable. The biggest issue he kept finding himself grappling with was the matter of the people in the city after he raised his wall. Would they be safe from the demons with the plans that he currently had in place? He didn’t want anyone here being hurt or killed needlessly it wouldn’t be fair that someone should die on account of his plans to bring his brother back. There was another small piece of him that told him that he was already tricking himself if he thought that he could set demons loose in a city and that a police officer wasn’t going to shoot at one and make him known to it. That officer would die. He told himself that if the Cops reacted in fear and choose to shoot at something the size of a bus and it killed them that would be the police’s fault. There was also the matter of the military; North Carolina had multiple military basses in and around it. Fort Bragg being the closest, there probably wasn’t going to be a situation where they weren’t going to get involved when a state capital was sealed off from the rest of the county.
These things and more where working through his mind when he felt the attention of something focus on him. That drew his attention Asmodan had become used to drawing nothings attention in the fog especially at night. The Warlock changed nothing he kept strolling along seemingly lost in his own thoughts. The presence that was focused on him drifted away he had to focus to keep it locked in his mind, whoever it was almost seemed to have no mind at all. That was something that he was not used to with humans. They always had something on their mind and when they didn’t their subconscious minds were usually torrents of random chaotic mess that they never took the time to try and sort out. This mind was almost invisible, finally Asmodan mentally called to Volnam who was currently a few blocks over on west market street stealing drinks from drunken college kids at a place called the flying saucer. There was an outdoor patio and he would drop down onto a table grab a drink and then flap himself back up to the roof. Beer wasn’t anything that would get the imp drunk but he loved hearing the humans argue and occasionally fight when they turned to find their drink missing and immediately blamed the nearest person with the same looking drink. Asmodan ruined the Imps fun and summoned him. He wanted the Imp to spot and watch whatever it was that was following him. It didn’t take long before the Imp had found a spot to perch and began to send mental images of a barefoot human male keeping several feet back from him. Asmodan declined Volnam’s offer to lash him with his tail. After another minute of spying for him, Volnam asked Asmodan what was a matter with this one’s mind the Imp hinted at the possibility of this mortal being mindless and then shortly changed his tune to wanting to take this one home for study. Which was what Asmodan was expecting him to suggest, then finally the fog stalker made his move.
The instant the mortal surged forward Volnam alerted the Warlock who spun at the last second and placed his hands on the back of the man’s head and swung him down at the ground. Like a wild animal the human took the fall and rolled over and up onto his feet in a fluid motion. Charging back at his chosen prey the barefooted man stayed low and hooked his left hand behind the others right knee and shoved the left shoulder back with his right. He ripped the Warlock off balance and slammed him into the ground. As the Warlock hit his attacker was already in the air hopping to land in a straddle over his downed target. Before he could actually land he was struck hard in the stomach and chest, hard enough to send him flying several feet up and back through the air he hit the wall of a building bounced off of it and landed on his hands and knees. Dizzy and gasping for breath he glanced sideways at the other man who was now climbing back up onto his feet rubbing the back of his head with his left hand and holding his right hand out curled into what looked like a claw.
“That hurt dick.”
The downed attacker did not respond he began to glance around Asmodan could tell he was planning his escape now. He waited for him to try it and sure enough the guy tried to lung out into the fog. As soon as he made his attempt Asmodan mentally grabbed him and flung him back into the wall he had already bounced off of once. The Warlock held him there against the wall squeezing slightly. As the Warlock approached him Jack saw something else a dark shape dart down and begin to hover off the man’s right shoulder it stayed back out of site and was just a floating shape about seven feet off the ground. He heard the wings flapping in the air.  The thing lowered until it was on the ground and then it walked up beside the man. They traded looks with each other and then the little demon thing asked him.
“What are you?”
Jack didn’t know how to answer he felt like he should be on the verge of panic but he wasn’t. He didn’t feel scared either which considering he was two feet off the ground against a wall hardly able to draw a breath and facing a man and what looked like a skinned winged monkey with a rodent like face. Part of him was sure he should be terrified. He finally decided to not answer and just stare at them.
“Silence huh? Ok I can talk in silence.”
Jack felt a sharp stab in the back of his head and it dug through his skull until it was right behind his eyes there it stopped.
“Knock knock. There now let’s see what there is to see.”
Asmodan dug around in the mind of his attacker he expected to see some sort of demon in here. But he didn’t he found a man, a highly irregular man.
“Who sent you to attack me? Is someone or something in the Abyss already getting antsy?”
Jacks eyes bulged. The Voice in his head was so loud it was a Megadeth concert between his ears. He was sure that if this kept up it would kill him. What was this man?
“No one sent me, I picked you out in the fog.”
“You are just a thug then?”
Asmodan asked out loud, doubt clear in his voice. There was no way someone with a mind like this is just out randomly mugging people in the fog, was there?
Jack was going to explain himself and stopped.
“Fine we do this, this way then.”
“No no… I will talk.”
Jack panted out. The little monster standing beside the man said something in a language that made Jacks skin crawl to hear and the pressure holding him against the wall released him.
“My associate seems to be really into you, he actually pointed out that talking when you can’t breathe is hard. With most people he would have tried to talk me into painting the wall with what I could squeeze out of you. Now again what are you?”
“I am… damn what kind of question is that. I’m me a man what they hell is that?”
                Jack pointed down at Volnam.
“That is an Imp. We already know about him we want to know about you.”
“I… Hunt in the fog. The fog provides me with what I need. Food clothes money. I’m no thief the fog provides me everything.”
“So the fog provided you a short flight and then a bashing against a wall possibly followed with a violent death.”
“Everything the fog has given me to this point it can take away.”
Asmodan turned to look down at Volnam.
“This guy is nuts.”
“He is wonderful. Now that he isn’t stalking you his mind is open and normal like any other and I can see all that he has done. He is a killing machine. He has killed so many and only since the fog has come. Given time he could kill… who knows how many. May I keep him I could teach him so much.”
“No you can’t keep him I should kill him now and do the world a favor.”
“No no, do not do that. If nothing else let him go we will have use for him later. There will always be a use for one like him. He is abandoned and he has abandoned.”
Asmodan turned to look back at the older man leaning against the wall. The Warlock was still surprised that he wasn’t the slightest scared. He was curious and shocked but beyond that he was just ready, ready to run ready to attack again? Asmodan wasn’t sure he just knew to keep his guard up.
“So Mr. Fog worshipper I can’t have you running around killing people out here, but my… associate is begging me to not finish you and hide the body.”
“Take me with you.”
The Warlock was repulsed by the idea but he could feel the Imp dancing around in anticipation.
“No but no more killing for you. I will think about you and come back later.”
“If you come back later you won’t be able to find me.”
“There is nowhere on this earth that you can hide from me now that I know about you. DO NOT KILL!”
The violence and the volume that came from that mental outburst was enough to overload Jack’s mind and he went down in a crumpled pile of unwashed body and clothes. Asmodan pulled out his wallet and grabbed a wad of cash and shoved it in the man’s pocket. If he was killing for food and Asmodan really wanted him to lay off the murder he had to give him an alternate way to eat.
“What the hell do you want to do with that one?”
Asmodan asked as they walked away back into the fog.
“For your kind he is one of the most beautiful I have seen.”
“You haven’t met any of our serial killers yet?”
“Slayers of breakfast foods?”
“You win as usual… I guess.”
“I will always win you are Human.”

After an additional week Volnam warned Asmodan to keep an eye on Lily, he warned that she was beginning to give off an active magical aura. Asmodan pointed out that she was at least a third demon now and that it was to be expected. Volnam said that she could be completly Demon, and not know how to actively use magic. Asmodan filed the warning away and continued on with his preparations all his materials had been gathered he had spoken with the Imps that Volnam had gathered for him and they came regularly into the material world to continue the work of setting up a defensive wall that he decided he would need.  He had contacted Catabasch and received the update on the forces at his disposal. There were almost right at two thousand demons gathered in a camp ready to make their deals and receive the amulets for their payment along with the allotted time in the material plane.
Donning his robe and gathering his circle of Imps for show, He created a portal to Catabasch. Each Imp carried a burlap sack, each sack carried Amulets and leather cords. These would be tied to each demon as his swore his oath to the Warlock. The force of demons wasn’t ordered like a disciplined military unit that he would have seen on television, it was just a massive mob-like gathering of Demons. As he stood there looking out over the gathering he realized just how many demons two thousand actually was. There was a black cloud of demons laid out before him in the valley region that they had claimed for their gathering place. Mentally he checked with Volnam and was assured that all the imps that were with them had mastery over fire and once so assured he turned to the demons before him.
“You have all been among the force of Catabasch to long to back out now! If you deny me now you will be slain. You are mine until the coming sworn task is completed. Once you are all sworn to me, you will be provided with implements like those your fierce general now carries. This chosen valley is also mine and will be prepared as a place fitting the force of the Warlock!”
While he shouted out to the demons massed in front of him he mentally contacted Volnam.
“Volnam leave Pipzic with me to handle the amulets you take the others and begin working the sides of the valley I want something impressive. You can even set up a place for yourself something flashy to show your status among them. Set Catabasch up really smooth too. If they have to come into his place for anything they need to be properly impressed slash scared by his pull with us. Set up whatever makes us look better than the neighbors. Build barracks or whatever they need to sleep in and be safe from rival attacks set up doors… you’re a smart rat, set it up right. I’m going to be taking oaths for who knows how long.”
As he was finishing with his instructions with Volnam four Goatmen moved towards him three forcefully brining the fourth. He looked them over for a second and then called out to them.
“Your eager aren’t you?”
The three looked back and forth to each other and threw the forth down towards the warlocks feet. One calmly explained what they were doing before stepping back with the others.
“He was leaving. He said he would not serve one who would not even muster the power to project his voice to the back of the crowd.”
Asmodan stared at the one who was thrown down; he had gathered himself and was standing tall now. The Casaganoth was easily a foot taller than the human. More muscled his wings were pulled tight to his back. His chest, waist and legs were a course mottled black and brown fur. His feet were the standard hoofed goat like feet. His arms looked like they were ready for any arm wrestling challenge that might come his way. Unless it was one of the Morganoth that wanted to test him. The demon stood glaring and crossed his arms over his chest. His breathing was steady, great gusts of hot rank air moved from his nose. The head was like the rest of his cast and oversized horned animal affair. One horn rose straight up and back only even slightly curving towards the back. The other one, on the left side of his head spiraled like it was one side of a unicorn’s horn and the straight one refused to be the other part of the spiral leaving to do half the job on its own. Danny noted that he still hadn’t learned how this caste of demon decided or ended up with their horn styles some had thick curving horns like a ram on earth and other had straight thin horns like a gazelle’s but if there was a group of the things standing together you would most likely not see any two heads that matched.
Catabasch moved forward from the place he had been standing beside and a little further back from the Imps. One hand carried the massive crystal blade that Asmodan had cut for him. He swung it once playfully as he advanced and then lifted it in a two handed grip high up over his head preparing to split the blasphemous deserter in two when the Warlock raised his hand to stop him.
“They want a display I will humor them.”
He said quietly to his would be enforcer. Then in a voice that would have damaged a normal humans ear drums he magically cast his voice in a manner that it would be heard in a neighboring valley if there was one.
“Create a circle! This one and I will duel!”
He pointed at the Casaganoth who still stood with his arms crossed over his chest. The others immediately began to clear the center of their group away leaving a wide circle. There were stories of Warlocks but no one had seen one before so no one knew what to expect from one in a fight. The Demons at the back of the gathering climbed the sides of the cliff and tried to see what was visible through the thick portions of the miasma. As soon as Asmodan was inside this circle and his opponent who opted to fly landed on the opposite side he opened himself up to the miasma began to take it in. He missed it so much. The miasma that began to flood into his back and fill his being was so reassuring to him. The Warlock wanted to cry out in joy and victory and a hundred other emotions that he felt, it was like meeting a long lost brother or comrade in arms. It was like a lot of things but he had to put them aside now. He had already decided that he couldn’t use his fire shield or almost any other defensive spell he had learned for himself he also couldn’t rely on the voice. He needed to prove beyond doubt that he was the baddest dude that these things were ever going to come across. Physically magically mentally he had to take them all in right now on this goat faced idiot. The miasma kept flooding into him he felt himself fill. Danny knew that he was going to have to do something soon to avoid bursting apart at the seams if that could happen to him he still didn’t know.
“You must humiliate him he must suffer they must be awed by your power and terrified of crossing you.”
“If they are going to swear to me then who cares?”
“They care, it is how it is done. They do not do this for you because they want to. They do this because they are scared that they will go through what he is about to go through if they do not.”
“So don’t give them free will because they have never had it before?”
“You’re a dick you know?”
“I am wise.”
The Casaganoth let out an odd bleating bellow and charged. Asmodan put some of that gathered and gathering power to use and began to infuse his body with it. Although it hurt… a lot his physical mass doubled and then almost tripped in the time it took the demon to cover the distance to him. The Warlock felt the rips in his skin but he felt them behind the hum of power that was flowing through him. The Demon grabbed for his arms and tried to hold him in place to that he could smash his face in with what the Warlock was assuming a very thick forehead. The Demon had a longer neck than Danny took into account and still came close to smashing him in the face but Danny took a step back and pulled the demon low as he moved the goat pulled its chin to its chest and attempted to bring its horns to bear but Danny was waiting for them and as they came down he immediately shot his hands in and grabbed them both. All Horned demons present winced a little while they cheered as the Warlock using his bare hands ripped his opponent’s horns from his skull. The Demon reached back to grab at the holes in its head and as it did the Warlock brought up his knee smashing in the goat’s lower jaw. The Demon fell back and landed on the ground before the human. Asmodan smiled as he looked at the horns and placed them in a deep pocket of the robe. In English the Warlock charged his voice and tried something new. He chose English so if it didn’t work no one would know that he had failed. He commanded the flesh on top of the demons head to heal. The goatman rolled to his hands and hooves and as he rose to his hooves his hand right hand jerked to his head again and he felt his skin close over the holes in his skull where his horns used to be. It itched but other than that there was no pain. His head still scream in pain but he wasn’t bleeding. The demon glared at Asmodan who seemed to be only half interested in the fight. Asmodan watched trying his hardest to look like he could care less about what was going on. In reality he was glued to every move the demon made. He decided to taunt some and took the horns back out of the pocket he held them out in one hand and tossed them to the crystal at the demons hooves.
“You dropped these.”
He said in abyssal. The Goat grabbed them and held them like daggers the spiraled one pointing up and the straight one pointing down along his forearm. Asmodan began to walk a circle around the Demon he made the Demon turn in place to keep an eye on him. He could feel its desire to charge him but also the fear that tempered that desire. The last time he charged the human his horns weren’t in his hands. Asmodan walked and he for a brief second remembered his time at the hands of the two Casaganoth that worked for that damned cat. He didn’t mean it too but he felt his adrenaline spike as he stared at his opponent his cool was gone before he realized he was about to lose it. His hands shot up in front of him like claws and his mind wrapped itself around the demon in the same manner. He growled as he mentally lifted the demon into the air and slammed him back down again and again he slammed the demon into the invincible crystal. The Warlock noted as one hoof split then one leg made a popping sound that would have made a decent life form cringe but nothing present in that valley was decent. Again and again the demon was smashed into the unyielding crystal floor. Finally the demon began to bleat out pathetic sounds begging sounds; it was attempting to plead for mercy between impacts. Asmodan heard none of it and finally Volnam pierced the wall of red that the human had thrown up around his mind.
“You could probably command him to damage himself and the immolate him and be done with it at this point.”
Asmodan mentally released the demon fifteen feet off the ground and the thing fell with a sound that was similar to a bag full of baseball bats and steaks. The demon had dropped its horns in the process of being smashed to pulp. The only thing that was allowing it to maintain a shape close to what it actually was, was the thick skin that managed to not split in a thousand different places.
Asmodan channeled his energy and charged his voice with power as he commanded the demon to disembowel itself with the curved horn that had rolled to its right when he dropped it. The thing screamed out as it moved against its will to grab the horn and continued to scream as it forced itself onto its back with the majority of its bones shattered from the repeated impacts. Once it lay there facing up into the sky the Casaganoth managed to work its arm onto its torso and using muscle alone forced the tip of the horn into the flesh of its belly and began to force it from left to right. The screaming continued but changed tone as the pressure inside its body changed as more and more of it was exposed to the open. Slow minutes later the thing lay there stomach open to the sky, arms lying to either side at odd broken angles. It’s smashed muzzle lolling to the left even though its skull was facing skyward. The breathing was shallow and rapid that all a temporary matter though, the Demon and the Warlock both knew that eventually he would regenerate to a point where the fight would have never happened. Asmodan was ready then with the fire he held out his hands in the air before him as he did the green flames began to burn in the air over the demon. He dropped his hands down to his sides and as he did the flames fell to the demon, which began his screaming anew. The Warlock was tired of the noise at this point and increased the intensity of the heat along with its hunger within seconds the head and neck along with most of the arms and legs were gone he poured more into the heat until the only thing remaining on the ground was small enough to fit in a  lunch box. In the center of the remains was the heart which he decided he was going to put to use. The Warlock issued a mental request to one of his Imps and it came forward a placed the mass of demon flesh in one of the bags that the amulets had been in.
He watched the interested look that crossed the faces of many of the onlookers and he called out the abyssal name for the Hate Engine, they all looked away no longer interested. From this point on it was the long process of Demons approaching him kneeling swearing their oath, making their pacts with him and receiving their amulet with a fitted leather cord to hold it in place. By the end of the of it all Volnam and the rest of the Imps had finished the first few barracks the doors of which could accommodate a Pit Fiend and at one point when asked about the size of them Volnam informed the Casaganoth that asked that their master traffics with the beings and that was why the doors were large enough to admit one. That piece of information spread faster and wider that the miasma once it was let out. The level of fear and respect that was being afforded the Warlock now was growing to legendary after what couldn’t have been much more than a typical day in the material realm. Once the oaths had been made the Warlock himself began to create rooms in the small cleft valley he had planned out his suite of rooms here in advance and had worked a few spells to make the process go faster rather than just summon flames and mentally direct them until the work was done. The door to his rooms however were not large or impressive in size there was a massive chamber where he could sit and meet with perhaps a hundred at a time and in the back of that room behind the throne like chair he had fashioned there was a very narrow door leading into a similar hallway that was anything but straight at the end of that where two more doors that could only be opened by someone with telekinetic talent themselves. Past these doors were his rooms there were six of them in total and none of them were equipped with a bed. He did not plan on ever sleeping in the abyss again. These were work rooms and labs similar to what he already had in the material plane but these he could practice in with the ability to pull on his most beloved source of power, the Abyss itself. Here he felt god like he had already healed the damage he had inflicted on himself when he physically charged himself up to fight the goat. Once he was done and his rooms were as close to done as they would be until he brought things to them from the material plane he just began to play with his power he sent lances of raw force off shaping them with his mind as they flew letting them slam into the invincible walls. He threw dragons from his hands to explode in greenish transparent bursts of power and then large predatory cats he made them stalk around the room and then sent them to pounce and explode as the dragons did. He played with all his powers but fire. He was contemplating using the fire when he felt the itch that was the mental phone ring of Volnam.
“There is something out here you should see.”
“Really not feeling it right now.”
“I insist that you come meet this being.”
“What is it? I thought I met them all with the pledging.”
“This one did not pledge to you, it has just arrived.”
“Can’t Catabasch take oaths and they can obey him when the time comes?”
“It is not here for the same thing as the rest of these… distractions.”
“Later Volnam I’m enjoying myself right now.”
Asmodan could feel the imps growing annoyance and the Warlock did intend on going out to see what was going on but he really liked harassing the little rat.
“It has brought a sword as a gift for the Warlock.”
Asmodan wasn’t harassing the Imp anymore.
“Really a sword? What kind that’s freaking cool. Gifts I never thought I’d get gifts from anyone. I’m coming out.”
It only took him a few minutes to make it out of his hidden little warren of rooms and hallways, he exited behind his thrown and came around the chair to see a Demon of an unknown caste it was purple and black or purplish black or both or all at the same time, Danny thought in different light there might be blue in there too. The Demon was close to the eight foot mark and roughly humanoid it had a head like nub that rose up out of its shoulders and forward to a point in front of its chest. Its legs weren’t really legs they were more like the smoky stuff that came out of the bottom of a genie and connected it to its lamp in the cartoons. This stuff wasn’t attached to a lamp though it drifted down to the crystal floor and just kind of pooled there. Constantly streaming down and then as far as the Warlock could guess evaporating it couldn’t be soaking into the crystal maybe it was dissipating into the Miasma? He couldn’t be sure but he was going to find out sooner or later.
The Demon stood there before him he was pretty sure that it was looking at him but its shapeless nub like projection of a head had no mouth or nose just white ghost light for eyes and they didn’t seem fixed solidly in place they seemed to drift randomly in about a four inch diameter of space inside the mound of stuff that made up the thing. It wore nothing and as far as he could tell it carried nothing. This immediately made him think that Volnam lied to him to get him out here. Its shoulders were massive just huge and the arms that hung down out of them were equally as hulk like. The body itself everything from the lower waist up was not mist like at all it was like a thick Jelly like substance it looked like Gelatin he was a walking children’s desert in grape demon flavor. Danny had just heard a large sampling of demonic voices as they went through the swearing oaths portion of the day and none of them sounded like this demon before him. All the other demons he had encountered so far be they beast like or humanoid had physical sounding voices, like they were made by the throat of the thing standing before him. This thing did not, its voice was echoey it came from someplace really far away and seemed to just echo out of the face of the thing in front of him a thing that as of now didn’t seem to have a mouth for the voice to come out of. Asmodan also noticed a lack of ears, nose… he had nothing but the eyes on his giant nub like head.
Asmodan stood there in front of the demon and waited. Then he mentally prodded Volnam until the Imp grudgingly introduced the Warlock.
“I present to you Warlock Asmodan Lenoir.”
There was a pause and the demon dipped a bow to the Warlock which was odd because the head stayed at the same level ghost light eyes locked on Asmodan but the torso, shoulders and arms all dipped low towards the ground.
“I am Mezzphogus”
Asmodan stood there and waited some more. He was hoping to see a sword appear out of thin air but was feeling like he was going to be let down. He was also waiting to see if the Demon was going to announce why he had come. Finally when he had decided that he had waited long enough, the Warlock broke down and asked.
“Mezzphogus, why have you come?”
The demon stood there for a few heartbeats and then tilted its head back and forth looking over the room.
“I smell the mark of the Warlock on you mortal. But what master has trained you?”
That comment confused Asmodan. He thought to himself Volnam trained me but why does that matter is there some other process that I should have gone through? What does this demon know that I don’t?
“I don’t understand, I was found on the material plane and trained by Volnam the Imp beside us. Is that what you mean by master?”
“A Warlock trained by a demon?”
Mezzphogus half shouted the question and the temperature in the room felt like it dropped several degrees. The Demon turned its head to Volnam white eyes no longer shifting around and no longer white. The ghost lights were now solid burning red embers. The Demon shot forth its hand which struck the imp and wrapped itself around him trapping all but his head. It’s not like a hand with fingers opened and grabbed the Imp it was more like when the surface of the fist struck the Imp everything behind it just wrapped forward and engulfed it. The blue demon lifted the Imp up to head level he stared at it face to face. Volnam was hissing and spitting like a pissed off cat. Then the Imps face erupted in a geyser of flames he summoned one of the few spells he had that he didn’t need his hands to direct or focus. The flames seemed to just roll around Mezzphogus not really affecting it. The demon pulled the Imp closer which led Asmodan to think that he really wasn’t worried about fire.
“What right Imp? What right did you have to take it upon yourself to train a Warlock? Did a predecessor charge you with the task?”
Volnam stopped struggling when he realized that though he was trapped he was not actually being hurt. He thought over the question and tried to find the best way to answer it. This Demon of unknown caste seemed to know something that Volnam did not. No one had asked Volnam to train a Warlock it was a scheme he came up with all on his own. He decided to go with a half truth or mostly lie depending on who he had to explain himself too later.
“I was charged through vision to find and train the Warlock. For countless years I have hunted the material plain and researched the bloodlines until I found this mortal. He is the rightful Warlock there is no doubt he had the Voice!”
The purpleish demon looked back to the Warlock.
“A simple test.”
Asmodan looked him in the eyes and nodded.
“Command me to drop this Imp before I crush it.”
As soon as he named the challenge Volnam began to grunt and then scream out.
Asmodan charged his voice with power and issued his command.
“Release him!”
A massive hole opened in the bottom of the demons hand and Volnam fell to the ground. He did not land how he should have, normally he would have used his wings to right himself or glide a distance away to safety after something like that, or at least flapped them once or twice to land softly but since most of the bones in them had just been crushed in multiple directions as well as the bones of his legs he just fell to the floor and began to drag himself hand over hand away and behind the Warlock.
“You have had not training from another Demon master?”
“No I have not. I have never known any teacher but the Imp you just crushed.”
“How did he come by the books?”
“What books? I have my own books all the notes and planes and theories that I have written down in my studies.”
The Demon let out a long keening wailing sound that lasted for a long minute it seemed tortured. It was depressing really depressing.
“OK! OK! Damn man, knock it off already! Look I have questions what kind of demon are you what caste?”
“You are most assuredly full of questions you know nothing. The question you just asked of me proves that.”
“Should I know what you are?”
“Had you been trained from the books you would know what everything in the Abyss is on sight”
“No book would be large enough to list the inhabitants of the abyss in its entirety.”
Volnam spit at the thing. Mentally he had called some of the other Imps from their tasks to come in and help him set his bones straight so that they would mend faster.
“Warlocks should be trained by their own. Not the depraved minds looking to take advantage of the unknowing. Allow me to kill this one and we can begin to find out what happened to the books you might have a basic enough knowledge that you can learn some of what they have to teach.”
“Nope sorry. I Have a pact with this demon he isn’t expendable.”
The wailing moaning began again and Asmodan used his voice again to command him to not make that noise anymore.
“No Warlock should enter into pacts with demon kind. It goes against all that you are. The name Warlock means oath breaker.”

“Mezzphogus I think that you and I have a lot to talk about please follow me back to a space I have behind the audience chair.”
